The never-ending balancing act between an SUV’s size, price, efficiency, and maneuverability can make the car shopping experience tricky, especially if you need to maximize the space available for moving goods. Fortunately, there are still some full-size SUVs and crossovers, and even a few more compact alternatives, that offer lots of cargo space — and most of them offer more than 100 cubic feet of cargo room.

Here are the top mainstream SUVs (priced below $75,000) from the 2024 model year that offer the most cargo space behind the first row. Note that some of our pricing information is estimated, as not all 2024 model year prices are available as of this writing.

1. 2024 Chevrolet Suburban/GMC Yukon XL

Space behind front row: 144.7 cubic feet

Starting price: $57,200/$60,400 (estimated)

We expect the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL models to return substantially unchanged from 2023, with a remake coming for 2025. A full-size SUV for a full-size life, the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban is up for just about anything — and it has the room to fit almost anything, too. If you prefer the GMC look, the Yukon XL is just as capable and spacious, and both offer more than 10% greater total cargo capacity as the next closest option.

2. 2024 Jeep Wagoneer L

Space behind front row: 130.9 cubic feet

Starting price: $64,595 (estimated)

The Jeep Wagoneer L debuted as a 2023 model, so we don’t expect major changes for 2024. Wagoneer is the Jeep brand’s entry into the full-size SUV field, and it comes in swinging for the cargo space fences, topping all but the longtime segment leaders. It’s also a stylish option with solid engine choices.

3. 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon

Space behind front row: 122.9 cubic feet

Starting price: $54,200/$57,400 (estimated)

We expect the 2024 Chevrolet and GMC full-size SUVs to return unchanged from 2023 on the promise of a 2025 makeover. If you need space but not quite all of the space, the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe or 2024 GMC Yukon may be a good fit. With about 85% of the cargo capacity and 100% of the capability of the Suburban/Yukon XL twins, the Tahoe and Yukon are also available with GM’s Super Cruise self-driving system.

Starting price: $62,590

The 2024 Ford
F,
+4.14%
Expedition Max follows the familiar formula of offering a supersized version in addition to the standard full-size SUV. In this case, the Max expands the Expedition’s standard cargo space by more than 15%, thanks to a slightly longer wheelbase.

5. 2024 Jeep Wagoneer

Space behind front row: 116.7 cubic feet

Starting price: $61,595 (estimated)

We expect the Jeep Wagoneer, which debuted as a 2022 model, to return unchanged for 2024. The Jeep Wagoneer is 12 inches shorter than the Wagoneer L, with a wheelbase shrinking seven, making it easier to maneuver and park while offering about 90% of the cargo space. If you expect to tow, the Wagoneer (and Wagoneer L) can pull up to 10,000 pounds when properly configured.

6. 2024 Ford Expedition

Space behind front row: 104.6 cubic feet

Starting price: $55,525

The 2024 Ford Expedition’s size and capability are headline features, but it’s also surprisingly refined to drive, with a rich interior and lots of standard and available equipment. Like the Max, the standard Expedition can be fitted with Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driver assist system and configured for more off-road use with the Timberline package.

7. 2024 Chevrolet Traverse

Space behind front row: 98.2 cubic feet

Starting price: $35,000 (estimated)

More carlike and comfort-focused than many of the truck-based options on this list, the all-new 2024 Chevrolet Traverse is a spacious SUV. To maximize the open, airy feeling of the cabin, look for models equipped with the optional panoramic dual-pane sunroof.

Starting price: $43,070

An all-new model to the Toyota
TM,

10. 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Starting price: $40,455

Impressive off-road ability, many standard features, and rugged truck-style construction give the 2024 Toyota 4Runner a lot of appeal as an old-school SUV in a world full of civilized crossovers. If you need space as well as a third row of seating that’s good for occasional use, the 2024 4Runner is a good pick. For those seeking to do more extensive off-roading, the TRD Pro is an excellent choice.

Honorable Mention: Luxury SUVs with the most cargo space

While the SUVs listed above are often nicely equipped and can be optioned into very spendy territory, the ones below are even more luxurious. Unfortunately, they’re also too expensive to make it onto our main list. Still, they deserve some recognition in the capacious SUV space.

2024 Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV

  • Space behind front row: 121.0/142.8 cubic feet

  • Starting price: $80,795/$82,295 (estimated)

Like the other GM
GM,
+3.37%
full-size SUVs, we expect the Cadillac Escalade to return unchanged for 2024, with a significant makeover coming in 2025. Unmistakable, imposing, and luxurious, the Cadillac Escalade and the longer, even more spacious Escalade ESV are icons of the SUV world. From spacious interiors and luxurious materials to mind-blowing performance in the 682-hp Escalade V models, this is an easy pick for someone who loves unabashed excess.

2024 Lincoln Navigator/Navigator Reserve L

  • Space behind front row: 103.3/120.2 cubic feet

  • Starting price: $82,765/$98,350

If you like the idea of the Escalade but don’t like the style or can’t bring yourself to buy from the General, the 2024 Lincoln Navigator is the classic alternative. As luxurious, large, and capable as the Escalade, the Navigator skips big-V8 power in favor of a truly robust 440-hp 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6.

2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer L

Should you find it difficult to maneuver, the Grand Wagoneer and extended-length L are available with ParkSense active parking assist.
