Japan’s overall consumer inflation rises 3% in September

TOKYO — Japan’s overall consumer prices rose 3% from a year earlier in September, government data showed Friday.

The figure was slightly lower than the 3.2% increase in August but it is still above the Bank of Japan’s 2% target.

Consumer inflation excluding volatile fresh food and energy increased 4.2% from a year earlier, compared with August’s 4.3% growth.
